Day 3

On 10th August, 2015 i.e the last day of Science Fest two activities were conducted parallel.

Origami ( Molecular Structures) an art which is slowly taking place in advance sciences to study molecular structures.

Chem-bola a different form of Tambola ( which was based on chemical properties of elements present in periodic table).

Closing ceremony was held in afternoon, where results were declared.

Dr.A.P.S.Chauhan from Jeevaji University was the chief guest of the day.

Day 2

9th August, 2015

Science Exhibition – Theme for Exhibition was   “Disaster Resistant Buildings ”.The winning entry from Daly College was “floating Nuclear Power Plant”. MGD girls school made model on “tornedo resistant buildings”.  Indian School and JPHS model was based on protection from four disasters earthquake, floods, Hurricane and blast. The Scindia School models were made on earthquake and flood resistant buildings.

After lunch delegates ran around whole campus to look for clues so that they could get a hidden treasure in Treasure Hunt. Some of the interesting clues were “Here you have reached, the sun will soon set. Bow at the feet of the saint in red, the next clue you shall get.” “COHOLS EATG TYCUSIRE ARGUD” “To solve this little fix, Solids, liquids and gases mix. Head to the place of some reaction,To end this puzzle transaction. Greet a friend, silent and old.And in return, the treasure you shall hold”.Which led them to various places and they were puzzeled and finally one group was able to reach the treasure. This was the activity thoroughly enjoyed by participants and this gave them oppurtunity to see every nook and corner of the campus.

The day ended by Memory game in which 13 rounds were there. Students saw 12 slides based on Chemistry for thirty seconds each  and then recall it in one minute each .13th round again puzzled every one with a chemical element Sudoku which students have seen for the first time in their life.

Science Fest’2015

8th August -10th August 2015

Day 1

8th August,2015

Chemistry Popularization Workshop

The workshop was conducted by Dr.Prabodh Chobe who Graduated from IIT – Bombay and  got his Doctoral degree in Organometallic Chemistry from State University of New York. He Worked with BASF for more than 25 years, of which 22 years as Head of BASF R & D center.  He worked with Nehru Science Centre as Chief Mentor in their Innovation Hub for spreading Innovation culture till 1st April, 2015. Currently working with Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University as “Coordinator – Industry Relations”.

His workshop was divided in four sessions "Why they are so great?" In which he told delegates about great scientists and what made them great in the second session he talked about very interesting inventions   "Future Innovations based on Chemistry" He gave Information about Quiz in third session and delegates took part in quiz.

While quiz was going on Dr.Chobe and Dr.Rana interacted with chemistry teachers at a separate venue. They told that you as teachers got an opportunity to groom young scientist in such a way so that they could think in a right direction to serve the mankind. Going out of the way in working place for betterment may have problems of its own kind but if you believe in it go ahead and you will succeed. Students do not require teacher for imparting syllabus only but to ignite a spark in them.

After lunch there was “Out of the Box Thinking" Contest. Here 4 students representing each IX,X and XI, XII came on stage and discussed some problems and tried to find entirely different solution.

One very interesting session was conducted by Dr.Arindam Rana who did his research at Indian Association for The Cultivation of Science, Kolkata in Synthetic Coordination Chemistry mimetic of Bioinorganic molecules. He got his  Ph.D. Degree from Jadavpur University in 1998 and did his postdoctoral research in Metalloporphyrin Chemistry at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, USA [2002-2003]

His session was full of excitement where he quickly played with several chemicals and also common substances to perform various reaction.
In the end there was a special dinner for delegates .Every one enjoyed and had fun with

Science Fest 2015

The Third  inter-school Science fest will be  held from 8thAugust   to 10th August 2015.This is the third venture at inter-school level where the horizon broadened and schools from outside Gwalior and Gwalior are coming together on one platform. The whole campus is undergoing a festive mode.
On the 8thAugust a Chemistry Popularization Workshop will be conducted from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm in the assembly hall. Dr Prabodh Chobe, (Ex R & D Head BASF Mumbai, Dr. Arindam Rana, Associate Professor in Chemistry, City College, Kolkatta will be coming to conduct this workshop.
On the 9thAugust an exhibition on ‘Disaster Resistant Buildings’ will take place. A treasure hunt for which few of  the clues given have scientific flavour. A memory game will also be  held the same day.
On, the last day which is the 9thAugust the delegates will show their creative skills using paper folding technique ‘Origami’. They will be creating structure of a molecules using the art. At last but not the least, there will be CHEMBOLA (Chembola a game of Tambola based on the periodic table).

Participating outstation schools are Jayshree Periwal High School Jaipur, MGD girls school Jaipur, Daly College Indore, The Indian School New Delhi, PPS Nabha Punjab,SKV Gwalior. In addition 12 Schools from Gwalior will be joining us.
